Foxglove Wild Flower Seeds Digitalis purpurea (LL10)
£1.49
A familiar wild plant of heaths and woodland clearings. Foxglove has tall spikes of purple flowers from June to late September and is famous for being the source of the life saving drug digitalin. It is a popular source of nectar for the bumble bee.
Sowing - Sow at any time of year, providing plants are well watered. For best results, sow in Spring or early Autumn. For maximum benefit, sow the seed in trays or pots of moist compost. As the seedlings appear, keep out of direct sunlight. When large enough, transplant to the desired location. Ideal for shady areas. Alternatively, sow in a well raked seed bed ensuring that the soil is fine and crumbly. Scatter the seed, rake lightly and firm down well. Keep well watered and weeded.
Maintenance - Cut back the plants in late September once the seed has fallen. As a biennial this plant will flower in year two.
