Herons

Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)

Length 90 cm

A magnificent site in the countryside, you are unlikely to see a heron in your garden unless you have a pond, when the heron can become a nuisance, stealing frogs, toads and goldfish. It is a wary bird and will most likely visit at dawn or dusk.

Feeding:-
Eats mainly fish but also frogs, toads, large insects and small mammals. May visit the bird table for small meat scraps during bad weather.

Nest:-
Large platform of twigs in tall trees with other herons, forming a heronry. Heronries  are often hundreds of years old.
