The pheasant was introduced into the Britain by the Normans. Sometimes seen in gardens, especially during bad weather, searching for grain and seeds.
Nest:- Makes a shallow hollow under a hedge or in bracken or long grass.
Male pheasant
Feeding:- Scratches about for grain, seeds and acorns and also clamber up trees for buds and fruit. Will also eat snails, worms and insects and other small animals. In winter it will also eat grass and roots and grain, bread and other scraps from the ground.
Female pheasant
Our resident male pheasant, named Hoppity, he walks with a limp and has a battered tail. He has taken refuge in our garden and now comes when called.
