Wildforms - Gardening for Wildlife, now belongs to the Forum for Gardening with Wildlife in Mind. This brings together more than 70 organisations including Government agencies, horticultural and scientific bodies, nature conservation NGOs and commercial businesses. Its overall purpose is “To inspire people to manage gardens for their own enjoyment in ways which also benefit wildlife”. It works to cultivate a responsible attitude to the natural environment on the part of gardeners and the garden industry and to gather evidence supporting the benefits, to people and biodiversity, of gardening with wildlife in mind. In July 2007, the Forum launched Let our gardens live! A manifesto for gardens, people and nature. This document:
- draws public attention to the importance of gardens for wildlife, people and the environment generally and to the threats facing gardens, eg from paving and development
- sets out an agreed agenda for future action
The full text of the manifesto and a list of supporting organisations are at www.naturalengland.org.uk/campaigns/breathingplaces/manifesto Individuals can also pledge their support by visiting www.wildaboutgardens.org
