BTO National Nestbox Week 14th - 21st February

The BTO have an annual National Nestbox Week starting on Valentines Day to encourage people to put up new nestboxes for a variety of birds. It is also worth helping the birds out by providing nesting material. Dried grass, moss raked from the lawn, sheeps wool, hair clippings (human or pet) and even the fluff from your tumble dryer can be placed in fat ball holders or similar for the birds to collect. Alternatively you can buy Nesting Wool in a Fat Ball Cage, in a Natural Ball or a Terracotta Apple, we also have a Buy 2 Get 1 Free offer on Wool Refills.

Look out for signs of Spring

The snowdrops should now be appearing in gardens and the countryside. There should also start to be activity in garden ponds. Listen out for the croaking of frogs attracting mates and frogspawn should be appearing soon. Learn more about Frogs with the FSC Fold out Guide to Reptiles & Amphibians and how to rear frogs with the FSC Guide to Keeping Frog Tadpoles. We also stock a range of Frog & Toad Shelters that look great beside a garden pond.

Put Bumblebee Boxes in position

Early Spring is the ideal time to put Bumblebee Boxes in place ready for when the queens emerge and start looking for nesting places. We also have a superb FSC Foldout Guide to Bees which includes Bumblebees.
