£1.49
Tall growing violet wildflowers that spiral up the stem. Loved by bees for its Summer flowers which have a wide spreading habit. Prefers lighter soils but good in most garden situations. Biennial.
Sowing - Sow at any time of year providing plants are well watered. For best results sow in Spring or early Autumn. To encourage good germination, sow the seed in trays or pots of moist compost and place outside. Transplant the young plants to the desired location. Alternatively, sow in a well raked bed ensuring that the soil is fine and crumbly. Scatter the seed, rake lightly and firm down well. Keep well watered and weeded in early stages.
Maintenance - Cut back the plants in late September once the seed has fallen. As a biennial, this plant will flower in year two. In garden situations, wildflowers can be treated as normal bedding plants, but they are hardier.
